Vision  Therapy

We Provide Vision Therapy as a Treatment Option
Good vision involves more than 20/20 eyesight or just "seeing clearly".

Some visual conditions and/or hand-eye-body coordination problems cannot be treated adequately with just glasses, contact lenses, or surgery and are best resolved through a program of Vision Therapy. The symptoms of vision-related learning problems are often overlooked or mislabeled. Following is a list of symptoms children and adults with visual challenges may exhibit.

When reading:

Frequent loss of place
Head movement
Needs finger to keep place
Omits words
Re-reads or skips lines
Confuses similar looking words
Poor comprehension
Failure to recognize the same word in next sentence
Complains of eyes hurting or headaches

Attention problems When writing
Writes up- or downhill
Repeats letters within words
Omits letters, numbers, or phrases
Misaligns digits
Covers one eye
Tilts head
Fails to recognize same word when repeated in text
Fails to visualize
Makes mistakes when copying from chalkboard
Writing poorly spaced or crooked
Unable to stay on ruled lines
Poor placement of words on page

What is Vision Therapy?
Vision Therapy is an individualized, supervised treatment program designed to correct visual-motor and/or visual-perceptive-cognitive deficiencies. Vision Therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain's ability to control eye alignment, eye teaming, and eye focusing abilities, eye movements and visual processing.

Who benefits from Vision Therapy? Learning Related Vision Problems
Vision Therapy can help those individuals who lack the necessary visual skills for effective reading, writing, and learning. Twenty-two visual processes must be performed accurately to successfully read and comprehend a sentence. Our office can improve all twenty-two visual processes.

Poor Binocular Coordination
Vision Therapy helps individuals develop normal coordination and teamwork of the two eyes, also known as binocular vision. When the two eyes fail to work together as an effective team, performance can suffer in many areas such as reading, sports, depth perception, or eye contact.

Strabismus and Amblyopia (Crossed Eyes, Eye Turns, Lazy Eye)
Vision Therapy programs offer much higher cure rates for turned eyes and/or lazy eye when compared to eye surgery, glasses, and/or patching, without therapy. Our office successfully treats patients of all ages from infants to the elderly.

Stress-induced Difficulties
21st century life demands more from our vision than ever before. Many children and adults constantly use their near vision at school, work and home. Environmental stresses on the visual system, including excessive computer use or close work, can induce blurred vision, eyestrain, and headaches.

Visual Rehabilitation for Special Needs
Vision can also be compromised as a result of neurological disorders or trauma to the nervous system. Vision Therapy can effectively treat the visual consequences of brain trauma, including double vision.

Sports Vision Improvement
Strong visual skills are critical to sports success. Accurate vision and athletic visual skills can be measured, developed, and enhanced through Vision Therapy. We can measure and successfully improve eye-hand coordination, visual reaction time, peripheral awareness, eye teaming, focusing, tracking, and visualization skills.

Vision Therapy can be the answer to many visual problems.

Don't hesitate to contact our office with your questions.
